It's truly hard to believe that 2017 has already come and gone! As I was naturally reflecting on the past year, it dawned on me that I was literally so busy in 2017 that I didn't get the time to post some of my most memorable projects! Today I'm taking a few hours to sit down, reflect and write about my top ten design projects of 2017 and maybe a few other moments. :-) P.S. I have cucumber water in my Yeti cup and a purple clay hydration mask on my face while I'm writing this blog post. Oh...and it's 28 degrees outside with a chance of snow in New Orleans so I have pulled out my portable insta-furnace for extra coziness LOL. Anyway, let's get on with the JL Studio 2017 Top Ten!
#1 of 10 JL Studio 2017 Top Ten - English Turn Bedroom Redesign
When a young, brilliant girl is preparing to go to college, chances are her bedroom may be due for a more sophisticated upgrade! I thoroughly enjoyed this 2017 bedroom transformation! Now hopefully this little pup doesn't mess up these beautiful custom fabrics! #jlstudiotopten photography by Bach Imagery
#2 of 10 JL Studio 2017 Top Ten - Elmer Residence - New Construction in Old Metairie
I absolutely adored designing this Cottage-Glam New Construction Home for the Elmer family ! We had so much fun working together that we're still working together now on the home decor phase! Hopefully at this time next year we will have FURNished photos to share! Shout out to Nelson Clayton Homes for making the building process run as smooth as possible!! And thank you to Jefferson Door for the finished photos!
#3 of 10 JL Studio 2017 Top Ten - Circle House (Originally designed by Architect Albert Ledner) Bath renovation
This project is a bittersweet one. A couple years ago I got a call from a lady who told me, "My house needs a renovation but it's a very unique home. You will have to think outside of the box (or the circle LOL.) Do you think you can do that?" (Well of course!😜) For the past 2 years I've had the opportunity to update some of the home finishes and through that I had the opportunity to meet with renowned mid-century modern Architect, Albert Ledner, who originally designed the home back in the 60's. To say he is an inspiration is an understatement.
When he learned a designer was redoing his 60's "Shaw House," or as I like to call it, the "Circle House," he ran right over to see what my plan was! We told him we were taking out the carpet and doing epoxy marbleized floors. He originally was not 💯 % sold on my idea! But I had a strong vision and I was going with it! Of course, I was naturally going to respect the original integrity and character of the home, but I still intended to make the changes I wanted to make. He came to see the floors once they were finished and he agreed that it was the perfect thing to do for the space! (Win!)😁
I also had the joy of attending the premier viewing of his career documentary that was presented at the New Orleans Museum of Art this year for the 2017 Architecture & Design Film Festival. He was 93 years old and I got to watch him sit on the stage and talk about what motivated him to design the crazy way he did. He inspired me to be bold and seek challenges. Sadly, he passed away a couple months after his documentary viewing. But I know his work and spirit will live on and continue to inspire people everyday. I'm praying 🙏🏼 for his family and friends as they transition into a new year, and a new chapter.
This bathroom renovation is the definition of custom! Custom blended floor finish, custom made concrete sink, custom mirror, custom lighting and even custom mosaic tile! Yes I said custom mosaic tile. My tile installer may have wanted to shoot me on this one as we hand picked each copper piece off of the mosaic sheets they came on and then relocated them on the wall to create a clean, copper stripe running through the bathroom. (WORTH IT!)
It's been an honor to update this historic mid-century modern home and I'm looking forward to continuing this outside of the box renovation in 2018!

#4 OF 10 JL STUDIO 2017 TOP TEN - COTTON MILL CONDO UPDATES
This has truly been a fun project to update at the Cotton Mill Condos in the Warehouse District of New Orleans this year. The scope of work was a little smaller then usual, but equally as fulfilling! We rearranged the furniture layout, designed and installed new custom window treatments and drapes, updated a few finishes and introduced some new furniture pieces! AND GLAM BAM IT'S LOOKING BETTER ALREADY! Stay tuned for more updates in 2018! #modernglam
#5 OF 10 JL STUDIO 2017 TOP TEN - PARKS OF PLAQUEMINES - NEW CONSTRUCTION HOME
This French-Mod New Construction home we designed from the ground up is definitely going down as one of our 2017 highlights!! JL Studio assisted with the floor plans, exterior elevations and lighting layouts. This home was built for entertaining - completed with a pool, fire-pit deck, outdoor kitchen, movie theatre, Bocce ball court and more! And to top it off, we designed a custom made 12' steel chandelier that was thoughtfully tailored to the foyer space. #groundup #lightingiskey #jlstudiotopten
After finalizing construction drawings, JL Studio also designed the layout and selected the finishes for the new construction pool. To help the client better visualize their backyard, we did 3D renderings and a fly-through video of the exterior.
#6 OF 10 JL STUDIO 2017 TOP TEN - MILAN ST - UPTOWN RENO
One positive thing I can say about 2017 is the clientele I've been blessed to work with. I loved getting to know this family and watching this renovation come to life! They were so pleased with the outcome that they threw a house warming party after with over 100 people! I'm so happy I was able to attend and meet some of their friends!
#7 OF 10 JL STUDIO 2017 TOP TEN - CONTEMPORARY NEW CONSTRUCTION - GABRIEL ESTATES
I've been working on this new construction home in Gabriel Estates for the past couple years but it's not totally finished yet! It's 13,000 sq ft, 3 stories & super custom! From standing on a muddy job-site to flying to market to go furniture shopping, this has been a very time consuming but incredible project for 2017!
#8 OF 10 JL STUDIO 2017 TOP TEN - PRATT DR - NEW CONSTRUCTION
This rustic-vintage inspired new construction home has been very thoughtfully planned out by my client, builder and I. It is a project that truly exemplifies the art of collaboration and it's been an honor to work on this new build!! It has required a ton of attention to detail but it has also been a joy to have a client who cares about the details as much as I do! ☺️ We can't wait to finish the construction phase in 2018!!
#9 OF 10 JL STUDIO 2017 TOP TEN - "DUFRENE PALACE" - GABRIEL ESTATES - NEW CONSTRUCTION
This luxury new construction home in Gabriel Estates is for sure swooping into the top ten even though it's not complete yet! This custom build with Creative Builders will be in the 2018 New Orleans Parade of Homes and we can't wait for the big reveal! It's been a great experience to work on this project! It's challenged me in ways that have made me grow as a designer and my clients have seriously been such a blast to work with! We can't wait to finish the construction phase and toast in their new wine cellar! #jlstudiotopten #creativebuildersofla #dufrenepalace

#10 OF 10 JL STUDIO 2017 TOP TEN - JULIA STREET - GALLERY ROWE CONDO RENOVATION
We're closing out our 2017 highlights with this drastic condo transformation in the #warehousedistrictnola ! After this renovation was complete, designer Jacquelyn Lindsey of JL Studio called on Nola artist Becky Domel Fos to add the perfect pop of color to this Julia Street condo! After collaborating, Jacquelyn and Becky decided the space was calling for a vibrant 7' tall saxophone! The outcome was so successful that JL Studio and Gallery B. Fos threw an Art & Design party in celebration! This event was definitely one of our most fun moments of 2017! #fallbackintocolor #jlstudiotopten #galleryrow #beckyfos #gallerybfos
