JL Studio was honored by the opportunity to collaborate again with our clients on the design of a 2nd location of Tacos del Cartel! Located in the Central Business District, Tacos del Cartel New Orleans brings a new breath of vibrance, rich culture, and exquisite cuisine to the up & coming South Market Neighborhood.
The highly intricate design for this location has deep roots; combining inspiration from the vibrant culture of Mexico and the rich soulfulness of the Crescent City. Starting with what was once a bland, commercial space, JL Studio embraced 1010 Girod Street as the perfect blank canvas to transform. Our clients’ dream was to create a 2nd Tacos del Cartel that would captivate and inspire each guest, and we are so proud to have delivered a space where every detail tells a story! From the life-sized trees adorned with pink floral canopies to the artisan-crafted alebrije jaguar head, each element has been meticulously designed to evoke a sense of wonder. The hand-painted bar mural, hypnotic mirrored bathroom hallway, and custom iridescent pink bookcase display are just a glimpse of the one-of-a-kind features throughout this space.
When it came to the courtyard, our biggest challenge was creating a functional dining area that stayed true to the lively interior, while operating within the limitations of an outdoor environment. After developing countless presentations, drafts, and renderings during the project’s conceptual phase, we landed on a luscious, tranquil courtyard design reminiscent of the old-world charm of historic Mexico City. Everything from the distressed stucco walls to the hand-painted lanterns and lush greenery create an ambiance that transport you to a luxurious, earthy paradise. Don’t be fooled by the more muted color palette, with a custom mosaic fountain, illuminated pink floral tunnel, and towering 5-foot jaguar topiary, this dining space isn’t lacking in personality or flair!

The Pink Penthouse is a historic property nestled in the French Quarter of New Orleans on Gov. Nicholls. This is the clients second home, party pad, and weekend getaway. The mission for this project was to create an extension of the wild nightlife and to feel otherworldly.
The use of heavy patterns, colors, pink leaf ceiling, the DIY mod podge wall of the clients family and friends & floor to ceiling chain wall installed by the JL team, and pop art accessories, many of which were handmade by various artists, make this quite the maximalist design - where more is truly more.
In this renovation, we removed a door and the doubled sided fireplaces that separated the two rooms - where the kitchen peninsula and bar seating now sits, in order to create a more open space for the clients to entertain. For the finishing touches — we used fine paints of Europe, panel ready appliances, designed custom stone epoxied by hand in India to create a slab, and a custom Italian red velvet sofa. We are now working on the main part of the house, so stay tuned!
This Airbnb named the “The Butterfly House,” fits right in with the “keep it weird” mantra of Austin, TX. This house is full of explosive colors, a dramatic wall mural above the television, and layers of depth throughout. JL Studio was hired to remotely work on this full-gut renovation and throughout the project, the JL Studio team flew to Austin only two times! Once to take measures & the second to accessorize and style the space for it be turnkey for the owners and guests!
In this renovation, we started with reframing the stairs, ripping out the sheet rocked pony walls along the staircase and catwalk and replacing them with a modern railing to open up the entry and stairwell. At JL, we believe in the importance of good lighting! So we incorporated LED lighting in the stair treads and statement light fixtures throughout the home to bring a feeling of unique ambiance. All upholstery fabrics were selected at a performance grade for maximum durability for Airbnb renters. A heavy use of plants brings a sense of natural wonder, and thoughtfully curated accessories bring an artistic touch. For the kitchen, JL had to get creative on how to maximize the rather small space. Using panel ready appliances and floating shelves that also add some light to the space, along with patterned tile that goes up to the ceiling, were all key in making it feel even more expansive and elegant! To this day, the “Butterfly House” is one of the most highly requested Airbnb locations in the ATX area!
This home in Belle Chasse, LA was bought by the client to be next-door to their growing family. They hired JL to elevate the master suite — a task that required a little bit of new construction. For this space we went with darker tones, and created custom roller shades and drapery to make the bedroom extra comfortable for sleep. As with any JL project, we love to customize. The bedding, bed frame, and sofa are all custom made.
For the his and hers closets, we had two major tasks. One was to create more space. And with grand babies on the way, the second task was to prioritize gun safety. The clients have a huge collection, now in a hidden room behind a wall of what looks like shoe shelving.
For her closet, we were able to build out onto the existing outdoor patio - to create the closet of her dreams. This stunning space boasts floor to ceiling mirrors, a gorgeous chandelier, and plenty of space for her wardrobe.
In this NOW sexy French Quarter pad, we took a bland white box and transformed it into a dark, reflective work of art with pops of seductive red, florals, and antique mirrors. Our clients asked JL to create an experience that would feel like an extension of a “French Quarter night life vibe.” We turned up the heat and replaced literally everything except for the painting that sits over the fireplace mantle, which drove our inspiration for the transformation! With concrete overlay floors, a custom-made Italian red velvet sofa, custom “floating” brass shelves, reflective wall finishes, an intricate chandelier installation (which took hours to figure out the swag patterns with a vague instruction sheet & 4 electricians!), to 6 months of searching for the perfect marble slabs that had a deep red vein with a clean white background, and a dangerous mirror collage installation up the historic uneven staircase -- this renovation goes down as one of our favorite transformations to date!!!
From drab to fab, this full gut bathroom renovation was completely transformed from floor to ceiling. JL Studio was tasked with preserving the existing black toilet and shower wall tile, while also making the space feel like it was seamlessly designed and brand new!
The new crema marfil marble flooring and alligator wall coverings give the space an elegant and dramatic feel. JL also replaced the horizontal vanity light fixture with two vertical wall sconces to incorporate a taller mirror and create an illusion of higher ceilings, which boasts fine paints of Europe & gold leaf crown molding. With this detail, we love how it draws the eye up and brings the slightest, most perfect amount of contrast in an otherwise monochromatic space. The custom marble vanity with gold legs and a gold under mount sink was designed to create a bold feature in this stunning bathroom!
Now a dazzling space designed to modernize and fulfill all of their cooking and entertaining dreams, this original 1990s kitchen was designed when the clients first built the home. Beautiful in its time, but way overdue for an upgrade! For this project, the client was tired of the heavy ornamentation in the cabinetry and wanted to focus on decluttering. They wanted a beautiful, yet functional space that fed both their love for aesthetic and culinary experiences.
JL Studio added a microwave drawer in the island, incorporated LED lit floating shelves, and added a variety of decorative items that bring in some warmth and personality to the kitchen. All of the existing granite was replaced with waterfall quartzite slabs. As well as a book matching detail and custom shaped back splash above the stove, also replacing the dollhouse sized hood with a new custom hood, finished in a Venetian plaster and Metallic finish.
With a huge emphasis on efficiency and reorganization, JL also transformed the existing pantry into a bar room with raised ceilings and beautifully glossed cabinetry. In the new and improved bar room you’ll also see an antique mirror wall, a chandelier, and LED strip lighting to really make the space feel like an elevated experience.
This master suite is the ultimate way to start your day feeling refreshed and come home feeling relaxed! In this renovation we removed the dingy brown bedroom carpet and replaced it with with polished marble floors to elevate the feeling. The existing drapery panels were removed to maximize the view of the expansive golf course and water view. We neutralized the color palette for a lighter, more airy feel when waking up in the morning. The closet was a full gut. We removed the existing carpet and all cabinetry to create a new, fully custom luxury closet. In the makeover, we designed customer cabinetry towers to hide the clothing for a cleaner, clutter free look. The extensive use of mirrored doors, detailed moldings, statement hardware, a wall mural done by a local artist, handmade sconces above the dresser, LED lighting in the floating shelves, and wallpaper on the ceiling were all strategically planned details to make the closet feel glamorous and timeless!
This newly renovated kitchen was featured as an “Inspired Kitchen” in the 2022 Spring Edition of New Orleans Homes & Lifestyles Magazine. This renovation started with an aggressive, time-consuming hunt to find the perfect marble, which we planned to be the most striking feature in the finished product. After months of searching high and low, we found the winner and had the bundle shipped from across the country to New Orleans. Upon arrival, we began working with our stone fabricator to strategically plan how we would cut the slabs and match up the veins to create a dramatic pattern on the kitchen hood. We presented 9 options to the client of how we could cut the veins and mirror the slabs on the hood and their minds were so blown they needed our expertise to make a decision! The vein map design was difficult, but with our creative eye we were able to bring the wow factor the clients wanted! In addition, we upgraded the basic island pendants to statement chandeliers, which frame the hood perfectly. We refaced the existing cabinet boxes with more elongated door styles and added antique mirror in a few of the upper cabinets. We installed oversized brass appliance hardware on the cabinets (which weighed a ton), faucet jewelry on the countertop, a beautiful brass sink and so much more!
JL Studio was hired to design the new location of Tujague’s Restaurant & Bar, the second oldest restaurant in New Orleans. Established in 1856, this New Orleans icon was known for its antique stand-up bar, traditional ambiance and historic memorabilia. The main mission of this project was to design an atmosphere that would reflect the original location. JL Studio was able to accomplish this through strategic planning: repurposing original elements and repeating architectural details while infusing Tujague’s history with fresh designs. Some of the notable features that are reminiscent of the original restaurant include wall paneling, placement of historic artwork and chandeliers and recreation of the original bar and color palette. More than doubling in size, the new location at 429 Decatur offers larger private dining rooms, an outdoor courtyard and luxurious bathrooms. Be sure to book a reservation to enjoy some delicious creole food and experience this world-class dining destination!
This 3rd floor bordello-feeling loft space is the perfect way to end a long night in the French Quarter! And this room is the definition of multi-functional! We created an environment where the homeowners can bring their friends up for a good night cap after being out on the town, but when the night is over, flip the murphy bed down out of the wall and VOILA! They have an instant guest room in seconds! The clients wanted their guests to be able to sleep soundly and have a feeling of privacy, so having the ability to “black out” the room was the driving force behind our design. We designed a blackout curtain wall that has the option to allow natural light to filter through by simply opening it up with a wand. Although it sounds glorious, and it is, this drapery wall was quite a hefty task (and fee!) The weight of the 20’ custom beam/valence supporting the fabric combined with the weight of the drapery wall itself took a lot of engineering. From the logistics behind transporting the custom-made valence from California, delicately bringing it up the turning 3rd floor staircase careful not to scratch the walls, & making sure the ceiling wouldn’t cave in during install, there was a ton of brain power in this design! But it was well worth the effort!
Although this French Quarter home bar was a small space, we made a huge impact in the re-design through our use of reflective wall finishes, antique mirrors, and enhanced lighting details. We removed the existing bar sink and replaced it with a clean, seamless counter space for a more functional bar spread. We relocated the cabinetry panel ice maker and wine fridge to create a symmetrical base cabinetry elevation. We incorporated brass floating shelves for increased storage space and visual interest. And SURPRISE…Hidden behind the reflective black doors across from this sleek & swanky home bar, is this unexpected, controversial, hot pink pantry! This pantry renovation was a refreshing opportunity to use bold colors and add a conversation piece to the mix that the client asked for! We absolutely love how it came out!
At JL Studio we know that any home nursery is a sacred, personal space to welcome a new baby. With our Parents-To-Be clients, we prioritize making sure the design process is as easy and enjoyable as possible for them & that the design reflects the clients personality. For this project, our clients had a very clear vision for their nursery, and they hired JL to come in and give it that extra TLC. One of our favorite things about this project was the addition of this stately bed for Mommy and Daddy, right across from the baby’s crib! What better way to get through the night with your new baby?!
Tacos del Cartel ~ the best authentic Mexican street food (Californian style) restaurant in New Orleans. This restaurant located on David Drive went through quite the transformation! The owners came to us mid renovation wanting us to take the design of this restaurant to the next level. We commissioned a local artist Danielle Hein to do not one, but two vibrant wall murals in the space. The flower ceiling, bar lighting, colorful tiles, custom neon sign, and crystal chandeliers are just a few of the things that add to the overall welcoming ambiance of the space. We hope you will check it out for yourself!
At JL Studio we believe that just because a space is small doesn’t mean it can’t have a WOW FACTOR! In this powder bath renovation, we took it from drab to fab! With dramatic wallpaper, a custom stone vanity with an integrated stone sink, statement lighting, specialty plumbing fixtures, a shaped mirror and beautiful artwork, we turned this basic bathroom into a MUST SEE when guests come over to visit!
JL Studio recently had the pleasure of creating a conceptual vision for 18 Audubon Place, a historical New Orleans mansion, currently co-listed with Sydney Anderson Realty and Talbot Realty. The property was recently refurbished and is now deemed a “White Box Sale.” This blank slate approach allows future owners the opportunity to completely personalize it for their lifestyle needs! With over 9,000 square feet of living space, 3 stories, a private backyard oasis, and a bonus basement, this gem is quite the dream home! Enhancing the home’s architectural features and developing improved family-oriented spaces was JL’s main objective in the conceptual redesign. The rooms are beautiful and are waiting to be personalized! With ornate moldings, a sculptural staircase and high ceilings, the potential of this home is tremendous! The natural lighting in the charming sunroom will filter into the kitchen. Our proposed kitchen design is so spicy! With the perfect blend of modern amenities and traditional bones, it’s hungry for it’s master chef. The 3rd Floor foyer opens up to adjacent bedrooms and a copper balcony overlooking Audubon Place... spacious enough to accommodate friends and family. We are 100 percent confident that the master suite canvas has the potential to be quite the masterpiece; well, at least that’s what we are always aiming for! The spacious backyard oasis is huge and ready to accommodate anything - a basketball court! A custom-treehouse! A dog agility course! You could even keep a small pony back there :-) There are endless possibilities for the interior and exterior design of this 5.5 million dollar stunner.
JL Studio was hired in the Spring of 2019 to furnish and decorate this client’s brand new home in Old Metairie. When JL Studio first came onto the project, the home was essentially a big, white box. We love a blank canvas with beautiful bones! We’ve been changing out light fixtures, designing custom furniture pieces and window treatments, working with artists on commissioned paintings, adding wallpapers and specialty faux finishes, locating antique mirrors from Italy, etc. This home is currently a work in progress and we can’t wait to finish the project and really give the client that “bold elegance” they have asked for!
Sometimes you don’t need to do a full gut renovation to have something beautiful! In this residential office space, we transformed it through the power of paint, texture, new furniture, and modernized accessories. We went with a soft blue and white color palette to create a serene feel for our clients as they look out onto their view of the golf course.
We kept everything as it was with the existing cabinetry layout, which features a double sided peninsula so two people can share the workspace at once and was very functional as it was. We updated existing finishes, put in new floor tile, and painted the countertops and cabinets. We also had a faux finisher come in to do a custom plaster finish on the walls and changed out cabinet hardware to more Victorian style statement hardware.
To bring the eye out to the golf course views, we enhanced the windows with custom roman shades and floor to ceiling drapery panels.
We love bringing the outdoors in! With this master bathroom redesign, the client wanted to gut the existing bathroom to make the layout more functional, while adding beautiful touches of green. We reoriented the shower entrance and removed the glass door so there could be a full walk-in shower experience! We replaced the built-in bathtub with a freestanding tub to allow for more walking space. We took out the squatty window above the tub and replaced it with a decorative marble mosaic feature. We also added a transom above the new mosaic to allow the natural light to still flow in. We had a custom, black concrete trough ramp sink made for their existing vanity base. We love creating a spa-like bathroom experience that anyone would enjoy!
Welcome to one our very special commercial projects, The Mirambell Realty headquarters on Metairie Road. This was one of the most colorful projects we have been apart of. There is wallpaper galore! The wall to the right of the entry door greets you with bright and beautiful waves of color. This wall also features a hidden storage closet with a push-to-open door covered in the wallpaper to disguise it. The cluster of halo light fixtures all at different heights and around intersecting beams made for one crazy install day!
In this Julia Street Condo reno, JL Studio transformed the space by rearranging the kitchen layout, relocating electrical fixtures, and incorporating natural textures combined with pops of color. After the renovation was complete, Designer Jacquelyn Lindsey of JL Studio Designs collaborated with New Orleans Artist Becky Fos to add the perfect finishing touch: a vibrant, custom saxophone painting! The outcome was extraordinary!
Monarch Contractors brought in JL Studio to design SIX condos on Decatur Street in the French Quarter. Each condo is unique with its own stone and tile selections, light fixtures, and hardware. Each floor in this building has its own style; second floor being mid-century modern, third floor being ultra contemporary, and the fourth floor with custom designs tailored to the owners.
We have been working with these lovely homeowners for nearly four years now and this bathroom was the 9th room in our client’s house that underwent a significant transformation with the help of JL Studio. When we started this bathroom redesign, the client literally gave us zero direction. It is music to my ears when a client says, “Whatever you think,” and let’s me run with a vision. It allows for the most creative explosion! For this renovation I wanted to do a masculine-modern style that was inspired by nature because her son is away at college and I wanted him to feel cool and relaxed when he comes home to visit. In this re-design we went down to the studs! We removed a wall to make the bathroom feel bigger, relocated outlets, raised the vanity lighting, extended the mirrors to the ceiling, changed the tub/shower to a walk-in, glass shower, had slab-style custom cabinets made, installed a beautiful, honed marble and designed a custom light-filtering window shade. In the bedroom, we added a fun, textured rust-color wallpaper on the headboard wall to give it a pop! We painted the most of the ceiling with black and added a touch of gold so that the chandelier would stand out even more. We’re happy to report that her son came home and loved his new bedroom and bathroom!
JL Studio was hired to turn an outdated “game room” into a swanky, fresh family movie room! After lots of intense drawings, working with local carpenters, and designing custom furnishings, this space has had quite the makeover! How could you ever leave your movie room if it was this luxurious!? Finished photos will be coming soon once we install the art and new window treatments!
What a stunning transformation this master bathroom went through! For starters, we relocated the shower to go behind the tub so the “wet functions” could be all in one zone. Not to mention the feature stone wall we were able to create in doing that! We changed the built-in tub to a freestanding tub to make the bathroom feel more open. We took the fur down out to increase the ceiling height in the tub area. Although it’s hard to tell from the photos, we also raised the door casing heights 2 feet to make the bathroom feel more grand. We replaced all the finishes with pretty much marble everything! We relocated the plumbing to have double sinks adjacent to each other on the same wall. When we did that, the bathroom entrance changed completely because instead of walking into the bathroom facing a sink, we re-designed it so the client would be walking in facing a beautiful makeup vanity with twin towers as the focal point. We also complimented the new entrance with a chandelier, sconces, & custom mirrors all the way to the ceiling! The client asked for more jewelry storage so we came up with the idea to do hidden storage behind the full length mirror! We hid the outlets inside the drawers to create a clutter free experience. The window treatment was custom design by yours truly. All artwork and linens were hand selected by the JL team. The list goes on and on about this drastic transformation!
In this fast-pace, tech-savvy world millennials are growing up in, they tend to forget about the importance and beauty of nature and wildlife. For this project JL Studio wanted to create a space for the client (in this case a medical student) that was inspired by nature, so he could retreat at the end of the day and forget about all the modern day-to-day problems. The client let us have free reign on the design. His only request was that it be sophisticated and warm because he wanted to be comfortable when he reads his intense text books. He is now happily acing all his exams and is feeling inspired to one day be a baller!
JL Studio was hired by a previous client to redesign their beach condo in Orange Beach, Alabama. Who can resist a project located right on the beach? For phase 1, we gutted the entire kitchen, breakfast nook, and bathroom. All of the drawings and design selections were done from out of state. Any project, any where, we will still have it completed beautifully! Stay tuned for phase 2 at this luxury one bedroom condo on Perdido Beach Boulevard.
Due to COVID-19, this project was not professionally photographed.
In this project we turned an outdated, depressing guest bedroom into a sanctuary oasis that now inspires guests to WANT to stay rather than just crash for the night! The only direction we received from the client was: “Just make it so it’s nice for my college daughter’s friends and my mother to stay in.” With those guidelines we decided to introduce a more feminine color palette and style. With blush tones, metallics, florals, low profile furniture and a monochromatic paint schedule, we were able to “lift” the room and make it more inviting. We replaced the floors, demoed the 2 awkward closets, and designed an upholstered built-in bench to soften the room and give the college girls a photo op when spending the night. With cabinetry towers flanking the upholstered bench, the guest room still offers needed storage despite the closet removal. We designed luxurious custom window treatments, installed a metallic floral wallpaper, all new paint, furniture, bedding, decor, a precious chandelier, and two pink paintings that we painted in-house by JL Studio! The only thing we kept from the original room was the stacks of antique books to repurpose on the new bookshelf.
At this English Turn residence, JL Studio was hired to redesign the client’s guest bedroom. The homeowner wanted to lighten the space and give it an elegant, New Orleans vibe. JL Studio transformed this bedroom by taking out the existing carpet, re-painting, and designing custom bedding and window treatments. JL Studio also collaborated with a local artist to create a collection of beautiful, custom New Orleans themed artwork.
Recently designed Lennox and Lane, a new Uptown women's clothing boutique located at 2131 Magazine St. This renovation features a modernization of the space going far beyond just flooring and paint! With high end finishes, timeless furniture pieces, luxurious fitting rooms, and an invisible surround sound system, this boutique gives the consumer the ultimate shopping experience from the moment they walk in until the moment they leave.
In 2016 JL Studio was hired to transform an outdated generic kitchen into a highly functional, modernized kitchen fit for a Kosher cooking lifestyle. This redesign went far beyond just flooring and paint. A wall was knocked out to open up the space, the ceiling was raised, plumbing was moved to center the sink on the window, and the ovens were relocated in order to fulfill the client's cooking needs. All materials were approved by a rabbi.
This fabulous bedroom + bathroom transformation was featured in the “Best of Current Design Trends” by Saint Charles Avenue Magazine! We’re in love with this masculine-meets-feminine makeover! Blush-toned shiny copper, deep green and black marble veining, wood textures, counter-to-ceiling mirrors, and bold artwork are just a few of the details that stand out the most.
In this fabulous guest bathroom renovation, JL Studio was hired to completely redesign the entire space. From painting the cabinets a dark, moody charcoal, to the beautiful statement marble countertop, the champagne bronze plumbing fixtures, brass tile trim, and mirrored tile wrapping the vanity top and shower… these are just a few of the intricate details that went into making this design come together. Mirrors were a key feature for this space to help really open it up!
Renovated an outdated childhood playroom to become a functional and sophisticated art studio. This was a full blown redesign of the space. A wall was moved back to allow for the installation of custom designed steel cabinets and a modern concrete sink. Carpet was ripped out and replaced with porcelain wood tile. A chalkboard wall was made for the artist's brainstorming sessions. LED lighting was added to brighten up the space and all paint colors were lightened up to bring a calm vibe to the studio. The new furniture selections make this studio the perfect place to work while still feeling cozy.
